OJELEYE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION (OEF) is a non-governmental organisation registered with appropriate Nigerian authorities.

THE RATIONALE

Those who knew Overseer Dr Joseph Olalere Omolayo Ojeleye (Late) and Deaconess Elizabeth Adefunke Ojeleye (Late), in whose memories the foundation is established, knew they were big on education.

As children of farmers, they saw their teaching careers as a divine calling and gave it their all.

Tributes left when both died in August 2008 and August 2021, respectively, underscore what positively impacting other lives meant to both of them.

There were times when, out of his salary and at the expense of his children's school fees, Overseer Ojeleye paid the fees of a brilliant child from a poor background in his school for whom missing an examination meant a life of consignment back to their village and probably future poverty.

The Chair of the foundation's Board of Trustees, Dr Olukunle Ojeleye, has also had the privilege of participating in fundraising for undergraduates in Nigerian universities for whom N10,000 in a month makes the difference between hunger with failure or a little food in the belly and success.

THE INTENT

The mission of the foundation is simple.

It is to change the narrative of brilliant children from financially handicapped families who gain admission into Nigerian federal universities.

Once means are tested, selected awardees will initially have their first-year tuition fees fully paid by the foundation. After that, they will be subject to maintaining a minimum grade point average of a second-class upper degree for the foundation to bear their fees for the remainder of their undergraduate sojourn.

Towards this end, the foundation has set up an endowment fund to sustain the foundation's goals year in and year out.

The children of Joseph and Elizabeth Ojeleye, have contributed an initial seed fund of N5 million.
There is ongoing fundraising among those who have indicated interest in partnering with the foundation to raise the endowment fund to at least N50 million.

Beginning January 2025, the yearly interest on the endowment fund would be disbursed as annual scholarships to as many recipients as could be covered.
